40 days post-op

Well, last night I slept fairly well but not great.  I made it until about 4 p.m. and then had to take some pain medicine.  The burning pain at night can get intense and sometimes after surgery this can increase as the nerves are trying to settle down.  I usually have to take a sleeping pill (Ambien), Neurontin for the nerve pain, and occasionally Hydrocodone.  So last night I caved and took some Hydrocodone and was able to sleep another few hours.  I am really hoping to gradually taper off of these medicines.  I don't like taking them at all especially because of the side effects.  Sometimes I have drowsiness and increased anxiety but nevertheless I am thankful for these drugs to make the recovery a little more pleasant.  During the day, I don't have to take much medicine-mainly Advil and occasionally some Neurontin.
Today, I swam some laps at the YMCA in Olathe.  Boy was the water freezing!  I was shivering almost the entire time.  They have a warm water pool as well and I was able to do some ankle exercises and tried walking on the bottom of the pool.  The ankle was a little sore while swimming laps but felt pretty good while walking in the water. Right now, I am able to drive okay but have to use my left foot because the right foot still isn't strong enough to handle much of the pedal movement.
