It's hard to believe it's been 4 months since my surgery. I have continued to make progress over the last month and even though I still have some down days physically and emotionally, I am pleased that these are slowly becoming less often. Yesterday, I enjoyed spending time with the family at Silver Dollar City in Branson. Although walking around the amusement park wasn't completely pain free the experience was much better than I anticipated.
I have been communicating with a physical therapist named Julie Bergmann in Southern California who had the same condition and surgery that I had. She is now helping others with similar conditions and specializes in nerve related injuries. Julie has been so encouraging and supportive throughout my recovery. She even made a YouTube video demonstrating how to tape my foot/ankle to give more support around the area that is bothering me. I've been taping my foot every day and think it has definitely helped make walking feel more comfortable.

My night time pain is slowly getting better although I still wake up in the morning to a deep aching feeling it is not as intense as it used to be. Also, I still get the tingly sensations in the inner arch area but it seems to be lessening as well. I am being cautiously optimistic right now and hoping for more relief of symptoms during the upcoming months. God has been good and I am continually grateful to Him for my recovery so far but most importantly my increasing faith and daily reliance on Him. God bless!
Thank you for sharing. I am 3 weeks out from surgery and I enjoyed your blog. How are you doing now?
ReplyDeleteHow long did it take you to feel completely healed? It's been 5 months since my surgery and while I am so much better, I still have achy days and pain on my first step in the morning. I know it's a long process. Im just curious.
ReplyDeleteI'm 4 weeks in and yet to walk in a sneaker. My job requires me on my feet for 7+ hours a day. I'm wondering how long to expect before returning.
ReplyDeleteI returned to work around week 4 but it was hard. I'm a teacher, so I'm on my feet 7+ hours a day as well. I felt like I should have taken more time. I found tennis shoes hurt my foot for quite awhile because of the pressure the shoe put on my wound. My Born boots felt better at first and then I switched to a very soft flat. Healing from this surgery is definitely a marathon, not a sprint. If you have the time, I wouldn't push it too soon. I felt like my recovery took longer because I did too much too soon, to the point that I still have some pain even 9 months later. I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts. How is your recovery going? It's actually been almost 4 years since my surgery and although my foot doesn't feel quite as good as my other one. I can honestly say that most days I don't notice it. I still have some achiness every once in a while but it usually goes away by the next day. It took about a year or more before I felt like the surgery was successful. Nerve recoveries seem to take so long to heal. The hardest part for me was the mental aspect of it and being patient.
